Rise in the demand for clean energy has led institutions and
governments alike to increase investments as well as regulations in the
progress & expansion of their solar sectors. 2013 marked China as
the leading solar power manufacturer globally by a wide margin. In the
upcoming years the country is planning an exponential increase in the
utilization of solar power to be replacing traditional energy production
methods by a colossal 80 percent. Such steps would not only reduce
their carbon footprint created from power generation through fuel
burning but would also decrease the overall cost of energy production
manifold. This in turn would save millions of dollars which will then be
invested in other projects for the purpose of economic development and
national growth.
In addition, the increased competitiveness of Asian countries
striving towards renewable energies have resulted in bringing the solar
industry worth nearly 102 billion dollars back to profitability after
almost two years of negative returns. In year 2013 China alone is
credited for generating power equivalent to the output of 10 atomic
reactors which is statistically 20.3 percent more than that of 2012.
Moreover, the installation cost of photovoltaic cells has seen to
decrease drastically due to large scale Chinese manufacturing which has
enabled and increased the reach of this incredible technology to a
larger number of consumers comparatively. Asia in general and China in
particular has left European and US producers far behind in their race
of adopting healthier energy production processes. Last year alone China
was recorded to have installed PV panels which equated the combined
amount of total solar power which is in operation within US. The steps
taken by this most populous nation to achieve energy efficiency
initiatives in order to reduce the overall electric demand would set an
example for all other countries to follow.
Therefore, despite visible slumps within European markets the demand
for solar power is witnessed to continuously increase. This demand is
majorly met by Chinese suppliers and installation companies. A recent
report carried out by WWF states that through complete adoption of
energy conservation methods, China has the ability to demonstrate to the
entire world that it is easily possible to thrust economic growth
forward while simultaneously ridding the globe from air pollution,
climatic changes and other potential harms. Thus achieving the ultimate
vision; of sole dependency on renewable sources for power generation in
the future.
