Make 70% Energy Savings by Replacing 100W HPS Lamps with a 30W LED Fixture

Electricity is an important commodity in the current age. It is used for almost every single activity and it practically runs the economy. It is however currently at a very high cost which makes commodity prices even higher. Making the most amounts of savings has therefore become a preoccupation in every state.

The most amount of money that is spent on electricity is usually to cover lighting costs since lights stay on very long. Street lights consume a lot of energy and therefore the cost increases. These costs can be reduced by installing LED fixtures.

Science and lighting

A number of scientists from the Lawrence Berkley Laboratory came up with the scotopic lumens concept. They came up with a factor known as a P/S ratio. It assists in the conversion of traditional lumens into the actual lumens that the eye perceives under mesopic light. It basically gives a better estimate of the actual amount of light produced.

The P/S ratio for LED bulbs is around 3 times higher than that of HPS bulbs. This gives you the proper range of lighting and wattage that you can use to replace HPS bulbs. You will have to divide the wattage on the HPS bulb by 3 to find the closest estimate of an LED equivalent. This is why you have a 30W LED bulb replacing a 100W HPS bulb.

Apart from the lumen output, energy consumption, cost and efficiency are other parameters that should influence the replacement of bulbs. LED fixtures use a very minimal amount of energy but as seen above produces better quality light. It is a very efficient type of lighting and this automatically leads to energy savings and reduced costs.

Initial cost as compared to long term

Most people look at the initial cost of the LED fixtures and decide that it is not a worthwhile investment but it actually is. The ROI or Return on Investment after a few years of using LED lighting on your solar lights will be very high and worth every sacrifice you put in at first. The cost of the fixtures themselves may be higher than most but installation is much cheaper and easier.

This is because these lights do not require any trenches to be dug for them. No cabling is required and thus no trenching. Once the installation is completed there is minimal maintenance required. This is because LED lights have a lifespan of about 10,000 hours. That means no replacement costs within short time periods.
The fact that the lights are solar powered ensures that there are no electricity bills to be paid. This reduces the cost of maintaining these lights even further. You realize that it is not just energy savings but cost savings as well that are attained.

The initial cost may indeed seem a bit higher than other regular fixtures but if you look at it in the long run, LED fixtures give a much better ROI compared to any other type of fixture.
